ASDN Contributing to the Archives |
Acceptable Types of MaterialsPlease contribute either your own materials (or pointers to others') to the ASDN archives. We will gladly accept any pertinent:
Contributing FilesShorter ContributionsFor shorter files, you can just send e-mail to
Jan K. Labanowski ( Longer Contributions
For longer files, please use ftp:
ftp ftp.asdn.net
Name: anonymous
Password: your-e-mail-address (you may prepend it with - if
it does not work)
cd incoming
binary (to set binary mode for compressed files)
mkdir mystuff (just an example -- use your own name)
cd mystuff
put readme.txt
put myfile1
put myfile2
...so on
quit
Note, for security reasons, you will be able to create only one subdirectory level and place files there. However, you will not be able to list or retrieve files which you uploaded. (It is inconvenient, since things seem to go to a black hole, but if we allowed retrieval from our ftp incoming directory, it would soon become a primary site for anonymous distributution of offensive material or bootleg software.) But, besides this inconvenience, the files are being uploaded, and once we have a chance to move them to publicly accessible directories, they will be available for download to everybody. Additional Information to Send Along with Uploads to ASDNPlease attach some information about items which you contribute e.g., as a "readme.txt" file. Once you are done, please send a short note to
Jan K. Labanowski If You Should Experience Problems...If you cannot upload to ftp site, please let us know, and report the reasons and symptoms. The ftp site with upload capability is usually under constant attack from people whose goal in life is to illegally break into computers. (Sometimes, we have to cleanup tons of garbage after such attacks.) The other option would be to put restrictions on the size of uploads, which we are trying to avoid. Thank you for your cooperation.
